Natural Plant Dyed Fabric Scarves
The Black Walnut used to dye these fabric scarves was harvested from a beloved tree on our property. The fabric is 100% cotton. The light to medium shades of brown color achieved from the initial dye pot using a vinegar mordant. Some variation in color happens when using nature as your medium. No two scarves are alike, each one carries it’s own unique one of a kind characteristics. It is my intention to bring one closer to nature through my process of using plants from my woodland habitat.
Plant dyes are “living color” that can be shifted with drastic changes in PH or chemicals. I recommend washing by hand separately with a PH neutral soap like 7th Generation. Slight bleeding should be expected, but like a comfortable pair of jeans, this natural dyed fabric scarf will gently fade with time and love but never lose it’s natural beauty. Wash and line dry accordingly.
These scarves are lovely individually but easily woven together for a unique effect. See tea and me photo using doubled scarves.
Choose 24″ x 15″ wide 100% cotton medium weave fabric or 24″ X 9″ wide tight crinkle weave fabric. These scarves can be steam ironed for a less natural appearance.
